New Years 2010
welcome to my world. It is new years eve 2010.
So epic sci fi, and yet it feels so down and dirty. Some kinda sloppy hi tech future that just couldn't let go of the past...
Lets all dance like they did in Zion at the end of the matrix, shall we?
Be at the Echoplex and experience, Bootie LA. A banger that features all mashup sets. So expect some surprises from us then too, ay guvna?
Here's some links for it:

BOY BOY
Hello there, let me introduce you to a friend of mine who goes by the name Boy Boy.
Boy Boy aka Angelo Lomelo is a tall dude who can take hold of a laptop and manhandle it into producing crazy sounds, strange yet compelling arrangements, and unique dj sets.
In short, Boy Boy has a style. and it is fresh. He is also cool because he landed an official remix of the new Britney song "3." I post for you now. I especially like the vocal edits in the beginning not to mention the wicked effects.
Britney Spears 3 BOY BOY Remix
He also has a minimal project called "Triangular Sheep" coming out on Rationalism Records out of Argentina... keep u posted.
ps if you want more Boy from Boy Boy, check out his soundcloud page.

Video Mixtape (I.W.L.)
nearly 29 vivid minutes from leo coltrane on Vimeo.
this is the first "video mixtape" i've posted, and i must say i really enjoy the format.
Not all of us have 29 minutes to sit and watch music videos one after the other commercial free....that must be why mtv abandoned the idea in favor of commercial laden reality skee-V.
anyway, this mix reminds me of a time when music videos were watched one after another... some of these are old but good (bjork and fiona apple), and some new and good (bat for lashes, santogold).
Ps its fun to just let this play in the background.
pps thanks leo

Loud Pipes.
I really don't know much about Loud Pipes other than he is from the UK, he may be a teenager, and he makes interesting tracks. I do have this story to tell: he hit up Chaz from Palmsout and with really nice track. Chaz said, try putting this purple crush accapella on top. He did that and gave us a very nice remix of our (dare i say) classic Vacation."
2 years later he hit us up with a clean as hell dubstepper that we put on our first comp You Been Crush vol 1. (coming to digital outlets near you)...

Drop it low
this is the new hot shit.
contessa and crew are killing it in the basement of the Annex here in NYC. i can't wait to see what this looks like tonight cause the cast of characters involved is better than a chorus line on acid.
Electro house in the house
well, this should be fun. after going to all the myspaces for links i do believe i have a new love for synths that sound like guitars.
and they sent 2 mixes to keep us busy until then:

Norrit & Queen Bea
Everyone knows the internet can be a troublesome, trollsome place. thats why its important to stick together like glue gun glue on a rhinestone. But thats not why i keep supporting Palmsout sounds and Norrit. Its because they pay me.
Just kidding. its cause i love and respect em. Personally i think Norrit is a true production original. i was very hyped on The Rhythm EP, Norrit's instrumental debut. Now he comes back with his long distance collab Queen Bea, who sounds soulful and sexy against his colorful yet nasty production.......and the remixes are kinda sick, yo.
We got to contribute a remix to this ep as well, and i'm going to give a little background on it: this was done on an old laptop while on tour. specifically it was done in Congorock and Alberto's living room in Milan.....damn those were the days.
For some reason the vocal samples were put in the trash and lost forever which meant it was done at that very moment, even if it wasn't quite ready......to quote trailer park boys, that's how she goes. anyway it rocked plenty of euro crowds on that tour during our set, so i can say it's road tested, euro approved. peace.

Show at Monkeytown
Monkeytown may be one of the strangest names for a club, but somehow i feel i belong there. I was telling a friend from the band Excepter that we were playing there and he told me he played there for something like 7 hours straight on election day whilst drinking mushroom tea. Wow.
Wednesday, June 3rd, Purple Crush shall rock monkeytown with Anamanaguchi who make hacked 8-bit punk music (who we played with in 2007 at death by audio), and self described "steam punk outfit" Infernal Devices.

Rebel Rebel.....
we released a single ep today by a texas guy who lives in sweden with his wife and goes by the name American Folklore. we're still trying to figure this guy out (he's quite a character and may like weed as much as us), or why he hit us up with this over a year and a half ago.....
we were immediately entranced by the song, so we did a remix. i mean, its rare that quality songs get made on the underground in this dj heavy world we're living in......
but dont b fooled by the humble tune. even though it sounds like beck in the 90s, its a hipster song in disguise....."rebel rebel" is an ode to Hianta, the female member of the uber-cooler-than-thou french music blog, fluokids.....
one more thing, the song will also appear on our labels first compilation "you been crushed v.1" out next month.....

"Marry Me" the video promo....
so, we licensed "marry me" to a Canadian Tv pilot show called "Tales of the Urban Indian", which is ironic, since we have an unreleased album we did in LA in 2004 called "Tales of the Urban Hippy".....
they just sent us a copy of the show, and low and behold, our song was used for the stripper scene!
so anyway, at the end is some flip cam shots of the real marry me video, which will be released soon.....

what this flyer is trying to say is, if you go to this party and hear Mike Genius and Boy Boy spin, you will either become a Parisian sailor boy living it up on a shore night or a dashing lady of the night who has finally found her long lost love. Either way its in the stars.
this remix/remake of crystal waters gypsy woman will point you in the right direction.

T.B.D. is a 2500 square foot lounge in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. As described on their website they have 12 beers on tap and free Wifi.
This friday there will be a sweet party there featuring a few of my favorite Brooklyn producers. Dre Skull, Krames, and Mike Genius.
The party is called the big dipper, and to get there, basically you have to follow the north star. if you have trouble finding the north star, just look for the big star coming off the handle of the big dipper up in the night sky. I know, its hard to do when you are on the G train, but some challenges aren't meant to be overcome.
T.B.D. is located at 224 Franklin Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. If you can't follow the stars, here's mapquest.

Nic Xedro aka Nikki Dro
way back in 2003 when we were just wee funkateirs jared and i decided to start Crushed Records as a means of getting our music out to the world. it was pre myspace, pre blogs, and (gasp!) pre friendster. we pressed up our first full length album, LCD, with a bootlegger, and i would sit on the corner of N7th and bedford and sell them with my girlfriend, who made hippy skin care products.....
jump ahead 6 years, and not only are we putting out our own music, but we've surrounded ourselves with amazing artists and talent....I am so excited about Crushed Records in 2009.
One artist that came to us like a lady bug landing on your arm is Nic Xedro. the mystery that surrounds him is intoxicating, he reeks of rockstardom, and the music makes u want to hump everything in sight: man, woman, animal or object.....
as seen on Winnie Cooper and Discobelle we bring to you "Im a Freak" by Nic Xedro aka Nikki Dro....

GET FREAKING DIGITAL
Crushed Records is dropping "Get Digital," A song about the digital world featuring the King of Wobble Rap, Leif. And, yes, we did it for the lulz.
The original song has been chopped and screwed and funneled into the commercial world for this G1 commercial. So go sign up for T-Mobile and get a G1 Google Phone. Mention Purple Crush and you get...... probably a polite blank look from the rep....there is no Purple Crush discount. Yet.
But thats just the capitalist cherry on top of the remix sunday (get it?)....
We got these big ballers to contribute to the mayhem: Ben Mono, Udachi, Boody B & Mahzda, Mike Genius, and the ever artistic Jimmy Edgar. Also, big thanks to Johnsville for his amazing painting on the cover. He is a serious talent.
And since everyone who is on the internet suffers from at least a mild case of ADD, we made a mashup of the entire EP in one lil song. ENJOY.

DJ Chaos - So Chaotic
the other day i got a google alert for a F!@# the DJ remix. Hadn't seen any new remixes of that track for a minute. so i downloaded it and it ruled!
I then did some interweb investigative reporting and discovered DJ Chaos of Oklahoma.....and i had to ask him a few questions:
lets begin at the beginning. what was your initial inspiration become what is now known as DJ chaos?
In the mid 80's during the Break Dance craze I was sponsored by Coca-Cola and traveled all over Oklahoma doing Shows. I was fascinated by the dj's scratching and mixing records. I bought my first set of turn tables and started practicing scratching and mixing records. One night I had some friends over and I was scratching while he was rapping and he said, "Wow! Thats chaotic, Dj Chaos in the house!" The name stuck.
Sounds very uh, chaotic...Nice work on the F the DJ remix. what made you do this remix?
I loved the vocals! I love bitchy diva sounding vocals. Like, "Shopping On The Dancefloor". I went looking for a good remixes to play at my Club residency, Club Posh, and I could'nt find any, so I made my own.
Thats the only way to go.....so you are in oklahoma city.. what is the club scene like there?
It could be better, we have a lot of nice clubs but It was a lot better five years ago. Now it's more of a drinking crowd. Don't get me wrong I have many loyal friends and fans that come out to support me and the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Scene, but the crowds have gotten a lot smaller. I think it will pick back up in the next few years, thanks to sites like Beatport & Masterbeat, and blogs like Digital Eargasm, that make dance music easily accessible to the masses.
I love Digital Eargasm...so classy. who are the artists you are paying attention to/taking inspiration from at the moment?
Dj Fixx, Dj Deekline & Keith MacKenzie for Freestyle & Breakbeats and Wolfgang Gartner & Hatiras for House & Electro.
That Wolfgang....he's such a killer! On the production tip, lets get nerdy for a second....what tools do you use to produce tracks?
The Newest version of Cool Edit Pro, Gold Wave and a few others.
A PC user i see....ok then, what sub genres of club music do you associate yourself with if any (i'm thinking juke, gettotech, fidgit, trance whatever)?
Just House, Electro, Breakbeat, Freestyle, Funk, Hip Hop
finally, who is in your crew?
Just me for now, but special thanks to my fellow Posh resident Dj/Remixer Dj Kelly Trance, my friend Dj Ronn Plae of Digital Eargasm for helping me get my remixes out there, all the Oklahoma Dj's that play my remixes in there clubs, and all the fellow Dj's and EDM heads that love a good remix.

ninja fucking sonik, sonik fucking ninja...
so jared and i have participated heavily in what will be termed the hybernation of winter 08/09....but something happened last week. maybe it was all cat fornication we witnessed outside our window or the warmer weather, but we went out, and when i say we went out, we went out hard. it seemed everywhere we went we ran into mr star city and anton glamb, and it was in these street meetings that the new term for 2009 has been realized........
SLURKING - definition: super lurking or scene lurking.
on saturday we caught up with the brooklyn cult known as ninjasonik, led by the reverend mcfly, jah jah. it was like grunge lite with heavy dose of club. it seemed like jah jah did more shit talking than he did songs, but does it matter? with the crowd chanting their name, you could just imagine the music, its a movement. and of course, things got really moving when the original cult club leader, spank rock, and his funky partner amanda blank (on the shoulders of star city) took the mic....

This is possibly the only father/son electro duo dropping jams on the scene. I have had the pleasure of hearing one of their sets in Orange County and I found it to be, well, righteous. Basically Pops (DJ Manray) raised Junior (DISH.IT) as a Goa Trance kid. Here he is in 93 with his "baby sitters:"
They've sent us a Live Mix (getting more and more of these!) and it is totally on point. Not surprising, because these guys are nothing if not meticulous.

T&B 'N LA
It may be like going to a foreign country and ordering a cheeseburger, but for some reason we just had to go to see NY Bass Champions Trouble & Bass do their thing in LA (Blow Up LA, that is). And, like a foreign cheeseburger, somehow it tasted that much better.

DJ's Are Not Rockstars? Then what are they?
So this guy named Van Scott sends me this email about a new release "Nightlovers" on a label called DJ's Are Not Rockstars. Of course I've heard of it, it's Alexander Technique's label, and he's been hyping it a while now in NYC clubs about town. You may have also heard of the quite satisfying song produced by Lauren Flax, You've Changed, also put out by the label.
So I look at the remixers, and he's got one of my all time faves Acid Jacks, and Chewy Chocolate Cookies (who you really can't hate on cause shit's always tight).
There's a Nick Catchdubs remix too and the original was produced by Alexander himself, with vocals by Van Scott. After i took a listen i realized i've been hearing this song in the club already. What a shocker. Here it is in all its glory, grab it quick before the uploads expire....
oh, and, go brooklyn!

WZRDZ - The Sleeve Has Dropped!
Here at You Been Crushed we have a penchant for the mystical, the magical, the mythical. Did i mention mysterious? WZRDZ is all of the above and so much more.
Well, the moment we've been waiting for has arrived. The gnomes that work deep in the digital pipes of the internet have delivered the goods. The EP is called "In a Land of Peace and Magic," and to celebrate, WZRDZ have conjured another video for your pleasure, as well as a track to download:
If you like what you hear you can buy the release at any of these respectable retailers:

Nic Xedro - World Keeps Spinning
Nic Xedro is an artist. He randomly sent me his Smells Like Teen Spirit cover and I went to his myspace, and I fell in love. Since i know nothing about him i asked him to give me a little background:
"i'm from new york city and i love pop music, especially artists who come from outside of the center and are somehow able to come around through the backdoor and implode it. create a black hole. someone like MIA, Lil Wayne, or Gary Numan. I'm inspired by people I know, transvestites, drag queens, addicts, artists, mostly people who have that joy in life"
