BOY BOY

Hello there, let me introduce you to a friend of mine who goes by the name Boy Boy.

Boy Boy aka Angelo Lomelo is a tall dude who can take hold of a laptop and manhandle it into producing crazy sounds, strange yet compelling arrangements, and unique dj sets.

In short, Boy Boy has a style. and it is fresh. He is also cool because he landed an official remix of the new Britney song "3." I post for you now. I especially like the vocal edits in the beginning not to mention the wicked effects.

He also has a minimal project called "Triangular Sheep" coming out on Rationalism Records out of Argentina... keep u posted.

Ben Mono is the man. He lives in Berlin, but he's never there cause he's always touring as a DJ or in the band Munk. But thats not why we are so on his jock. GET FREAKING DIGITAL

Crushed Records is dropping "Get Digital," A song about the digital world featuring the King of Wobble Rap, Leif. And, yes, we did it for the lulz.

The original song has been chopped and screwed and funneled into the commercial world for this G1 commercial. So go sign up for T-Mobile and get a G1 Google Phone. Mention Purple Crush and you get...... probably a polite blank look from the rep....there is no Purple Crush discount. Yet.

But thats just the capitalist cherry on top of the remix sunday (get it?)....

We got these big ballers to contribute to the mayhem: Ben Mono, Udachi, Boody B & Mahzda, Mike Genius, and the ever artistic Jimmy Edgar. Also, big thanks to Johnsville for his amazing painting on the cover. He is a serious talent.

And since everyone who is on the internet suffers from at least a mild case of ADD, we made a mashup of the entire EP in one lil song. ENJOY.

DJ Chaos - So Chaotic

the other day i got a google alert for a F!@# the DJ remix. Hadn't seen any new remixes of that track for a minute. so i downloaded it and it ruled!

I then did some interweb investigative reporting and discovered DJ Chaos of Oklahoma.....and i had to ask him a few questions:

lets begin at the beginning. what was your initial inspiration become what is now known as DJ chaos?
In the mid 80's during the Break Dance craze I was sponsored by Coca-Cola and traveled all over Oklahoma doing Shows. I was fascinated by the dj's scratching and mixing records. I bought my first set of turn tables and started practicing scratching and mixing records. One night I had some friends over and I was scratching while he was rapping and he said, "Wow! Thats chaotic, Dj Chaos in the house!" The name stuck.

Sounds very uh, chaotic...Nice work on the F the DJ remix. what made you do this remix?
I loved the vocals! I love bitchy diva sounding vocals. Like, "Shopping On The Dancefloor". I went looking for a good remixes to play at my Club residency, Club Posh, and I could'nt find any, so I made my own.

Thats the only way to go.....so you are in oklahoma city.. what is the club scene like there?
It could be better, we have a lot of nice clubs but It was a lot better five years ago. Now it's more of a drinking crowd. Don't get me wrong I have many loyal friends and fans that come out to support me and the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Scene, but the crowds have gotten a lot smaller. I think it will pick back up in the next few years, thanks to sites like Beatport & Masterbeat, and blogs like Digital Eargasm, that make dance music easily accessible to the masses.

I love Digital Eargasm...so classy. who are the artists you are paying attention to/taking inspiration from at the moment?
Dj Fixx, Dj Deekline & Keith MacKenzie for Freestyle & Breakbeats and Wolfgang Gartner & Hatiras for House & Electro.

That Wolfgang....he's such a killer! On the production tip, lets get nerdy for a second....what tools do you use to produce tracks?
The Newest version of Cool Edit Pro, Gold Wave and a few others.

A PC user i see....ok then, what sub genres of club music do you associate yourself with if any (i'm thinking juke, gettotech, fidgit, trance whatever)?
Just House, Electro, Breakbeat, Freestyle, Funk, Hip Hop

finally, who is in your crew?
Just me for now, but special thanks to my fellow Posh resident Dj/Remixer Dj Kelly Trance, my friend Dj Ronn Plae of Digital Eargasm for helping me get my remixes out there, all the Oklahoma Dj's that play my remixes in there clubs, and all the fellow Dj's and EDM heads that love a good remix.

Thanks DJ Chaotic. i'm coming through your party if i'm ever in OK..

Kevin Bacon, the Remix

So you may or may not know, Kevin Bacon is a movie star.  Wait what i meant was Kevin Bacon makes music.  With his brother.  They are called the Bacon Brothers.  So apparently they've been doing this since they were small Bacons, still attached to the pig.

As you would expect they have a small but loyal following, and i'm sure the warm and fuzzy feelings abound at their shows.

As you also might expect, they have remixes.  I ran into this cat Zack Hagan at a small french themed party and he told me he just remixed a Kevin Bacon song about a giant squid.  Being the responsible blogger that i am, i followed up and i have it here to share with u:

Norrit!!!!!!

Norrit is dope.  He is also known as Iggy Baby from Lawrence Kansas.  We met this dude round bout 2006 at one of the worst gigs we have ever played.  There was no one there save the promoter, his girl, a crackhead and Norrit, who was djing off of some old ass virtual dj demo program on his windows-98-running-laptop.

Obviously he was cool as hell and way up on his electroclash.  didn't think about him for a few years until Haldan from palms out showed us his myspace and informed us he was putting this mystery dude out on his label (not this release).

He has a kick ass style and really puts some personality into his remixes and originals...Of course we jumped on that bandwagon ASAP and asked him to remix a track of ours (turns out he already did but we wanted moar!)

here's a free track from his ep:

1. boo and boo too - no tempo (norrit remix)
2. nomathmatics - prozactro (norrit keeps it mnml mix)
3. ssion - street jizz (norrit's feels dirty bootleg mix)
4. johnny moog - fantastic lover (norrit remix)
5. norrit feat royce diamond - move
6. pirate robot midget - it's my beat now (riva starr remix)
7. oh snap - hi top fade (hostage remix)
8. foamo - everything cool
9. tom eq - the beginning
10. fake blood - mars
11. curses! - what i need (sharkslayer remix)
12. purple crush - get busy boys (norrit remix)
13. claire rayners - nobody baby
14. norrit featuring queen bea - don't leave me this way

Even Busier Boys

Busy Boys. Perhaps you've seen the video. Perhaps you've wondered what it all means. Perhaps you are the one who left a comment on discobelle wondering what drugs we were on when we made it.

Well, to answer you're question: it was a heady combination of high altitude mountain air and finely ground sea salt. Of course, we were freebasing this air-salt combination with a dirty little technique called deep breathing. Please don't try this on your own. its dangerous.

But Busy Boys is about much more than getting cranked up on rock (salt). Its about hustling. its about making something more out of something less. In short, its about the American Dream.

In our travels round the world we have been out there collecting the dopest remixes the european electro underground has to offer just to prove our point. So it is with great pleasure that I drop the original busy boys track and a remix by one of the dukes of the emerging copenhagen ghetto rave scene, jens fokking (of copyfokking).....we'll be teasing you with 192s of the ep gearing up for the release date, November 18th....

Shir Khan - Dj's Dj/Producer's Producer/Label Owner's Label Owner

Shir Khan has the cutest german accent. Especially when he says the word "Overcompressed." He lives in Berlin and I assume he owns the place. Or at least he is good friends with the owner. He runs Exploited Records, has a radio show, and really does some of the classiest remix work around. In fact the shopping on the dancefloor remix he did for purple crush is our best selling joint on itunes. and it was licensed to EMI Japan. word. His remix of Act Yo Age's The Flash caught my attention the other day in blog world and i realized i needed to repost.

Check out his mixes on XLR8R.com: Part 1, Part 2

Radiohead - Reckoner

Now that the "Official Diplo Remix" (thx welikeit.indie) is out, Its time to hear from the rest of us.

The ever creative Mike Genius has taken his crack at it, and by the reaction of the crowd last night it is quite effective. My personal opinion is that this is the most justice - y remix mike has done. He didn't disagree.

If you like it, vote for him in the remix contest. hell if you don't like it vote anyway.

Chromeo. We Love Them. Who doesn't?

We were contacted by Karmaloop.com to post this interview with the lovable and talented Chromeo. You won't get any new information out of this if you've been following them for any amount of time, but you will see how they interact together which is kinda priceless.

I could drop sooo many jewels about Chromeo like the time P Thugg got pissed at franki chan and the toxic avenger for throwing ice at each other a little too close to him whilst he was wearing some dope threads in Miami (something you only do once btw).

Or about the time we had a meeting at their label in London and went to the Chromeo show for the wrap up meeting (it was a wrap). That show was too insane even for them.

Or I could tell you about the many times I've been mistaken for Dave 1 (very boring). Instead I'll just post some mp3s.

Ace of Base

What is it with the swedes?  why do they have to make pop music so damn digestible?  Ace of Base is from Gothenberg, what i call the Detroit of Sweden.  Last time i was there i was wearing a hoodie with my big glasses and some drunk chick yelled "where you going grandma?" in pretty good english. zing.

But enough about me.  Ace of Base is making a comeback. Or has been since 2007.  They are planning to release their 5th studio album in 2009, and are doing a bunch of european gigs.  They have quite an interesting past, as the band was made up of two siblings and a guy who goes by Bhudda, who apparently celebrated the millennium with Bill Clinton and also expereinced the tsunami in Phuket.  Damn.

Sally Shapiro

Sally Shapiro is not this person's real name.  The only name we have to go on when speaking of Sally Shapiro is Johan Agebjörn, the songwriter and producer of this group.  This cute swedish face is part of a formula developed and perfected in the 80's, something like a situation Giorgio Moroder (u must watch this) might have dreamed up.  But don't take my word for it. Here's what the producer himself has to say:

“I chose [the name] Sally Shapiro because we were inspired by artists like Valerie Dore and Katy Gray, who also had a team of producers and writers behind them using the name of a singer as the title for the project” (source)

Damn he makes the tracks, writes the songs and gets to name the group?  This sounds more like the 50's than the 80's!  But you know what?  It's working.  Check out her label Paper Bag Records as well. Oh, and if you want to buy stuff try here.

Ladytron

Velocifero means "bringer of speed."  It is also the name of a scooter.  How euro.  This song is dope as is the video.  Please enjoy these downloads and note that the other single for the record, "Black Cat," is sung entirely in Bulgarian.

Ursula 1000

So I was on Dr. Luke's Wikipedia page (mega post to follow) looking in wonderment at his accomplishments when i happened upon a list of tracks co produced with DJ Alex Gimeno aka Ursula 1000.

You've heard the name, but what's his game? Firstly, as seen in the above video, he brings the funk. Secondly, as also seen, he has a sense of humor. Thirdly, he is what some of us new jack blog dj's might refer to as "The Real Deal." Fourthly, his look reminds me of the mooney suzuki guy.  That's cool with me, I love DJ's who look like indie rock stars.

According to my internet sources, Alex Gimeno was born in brooklyn, grew up in a musical family and spent a long time in miami where you either drown in a mountain of cocaine or learn how to dj real good.  Apparently his apartment is completely filled with vinyl because he is an insane record collector.  He also has sold tracks to the devil aka Grey's Anatomy.

His sound is all Tiki Torches, exotic hula girls, baile breaks, and thievery corporational soundscapery.  Enjoy.

Mike Genius Release Party, Girls and Boys, Famous Friends, The Black Kids

I live in NYC. Well, Brooklyn to be exact.  Off the A train deep in.  So sometimes you have to figure out if its worth it to go out at night.  Last night, went out to see some fam dj in the west village.  Getting there? a bitch.  Getting home? End up witnessing the mother of all girl fights waiting for the train.  I'm talking 2 chicks fighting over another other chick.  I'm talking a big ass dyke causing major damage to a J*Davey looking skinny girl over another girl in a sundress (its october mind u).

I'm talking some asian guy trying to help out by hitting the big girl over the head with a frying pan he was carrying, to no effect.  I'm talking blood, alot of it. Cell phones and wallets (and frying pans) kicked into the track.  And it just didn't stop till the cops came and we got on the train.

But enough of that.  Tonight will be better because its going to be an insane party at Arlo & Esme's for the Famous Friends Girls and Boys Party with Mike Genius (his release party!!!), Purple Crush (DJ set),  and The Black Kids DJ set. RSVP at going.com and bring your frying pan for the ride home.

Britney Spears - Womanizer

After leaving too many comments at OhhCrapp.net i guess i've just decided to repost.  But here's a little more info:  the song was produced by a production team out of Atlanta called the Outsyders.
It definitely has the sound of some of her previous hits like Radar, Gimme More, and to a lesser degree Toxic, which to me says Bloodshy and Avant.  I have a feeling some of the current brit dream team (bloodshy & avant, danja, dr. luke-[i kissed a girl!!!] to name a few) still have some sway over her material, if only stylistically.
And on a more personal note, Purple Crush did a silly little interpolation of Bloodshy and Avant produced song "Piece of Me" called Beef with Me (youtube).  It was all fun and games till an interviewer on swedish top 40 radio brought it up to us whilest on tour.  Damn artistic skeletons in the closet.
