Ben Mono is the man. He lives in Berlin, but he's never there cause he's always touring as a DJ or in the band Munk. But thats not why we are so on his jock. We are so on his jock cause he's a killer producer. This interview gives you a rare glimpse of the lifestyle and studio of Ben Mono. In stereo.
Crushed Records is dropping "Get Digital," A song about the digital world featuring the King of Wobble Rap, Leif. And, yes, we did it for the lulz.
The original song has been chopped and screwed and funneled into the commercial world for this G1 commercial. So go sign up for T-Mobile and get a G1 Google Phone. Mention Purple Crush and you get...... probably a polite blank look from the rep....there is no Purple Crush discount. Yet.
But thats just the capitalist cherry on top of the remix sunday (get it?)....
the other day i got a google alert for a F!@# the DJ remix. Hadn't seen any new remixes of that track for a minute. so i downloaded it and it ruled!
I then did some interweb investigative reporting and discovered DJ Chaos of Oklahoma.....and i had to ask him a few questions:
lets begin at the beginning. what was your initial inspiration become what is now known as DJ chaos? In the mid 80's during the Break Dance craze I was sponsored by Coca-Cola and traveled all over Oklahoma doing Shows. I was fascinated by the dj's scratching and mixing records. I bought my first set of turn tables and started practicing scratching and mixing records. One night I had some friends over and I was scratching while he was rapping and he said, "Wow! Thats chaotic, Dj Chaos in the house!" The name stuck.
Sounds very uh, chaotic...Nice work on the F the DJ remix. what made you do this remix? I loved the vocals! I love bitchy diva sounding vocals. Like, "Shopping On The Dancefloor". I went looking for a good remixes to play at my Club residency, Club Posh, and I could'nt find any, so I made my own.
Thats the only way to go.....so you are in oklahoma city.. what is the club scene like there?
It could be better, we have a lot of nice clubs but It was a lot better five years ago. Now it's more of a drinking crowd. Don't get me wrong I have many loyal friends and fans that come out to support me and the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Scene, but the crowds have gotten a lot smaller. I think it will pick back up in the next few years, thanks to sites like Beatport & Masterbeat, and blogs like Digital Eargasm, that make dance music easily accessible to the masses.
I love Digital Eargasm...so classy. who are the artists you are paying attention to/taking inspiration from at the moment? Dj Fixx, Dj Deekline & Keith MacKenzie for Freestyle & Breakbeats and Wolfgang Gartner & Hatiras for House & Electro.
That Wolfgang....he's such a killer! On the production tip, lets get nerdy for a second....what tools do you use to produce tracks? The Newest version of Cool Edit Pro, Gold Wave and a few others.
A PC user i see....ok then, what sub genres of club music do you associate yourself with if any (i'm thinking juke, gettotech, fidgit, trance whatever)? Just House, Electro, Breakbeat, Freestyle, Funk, Hip Hop
finally, who is in your crew? Just me for now, but special thanks to my fellow Posh resident Dj/Remixer Dj Kelly Trance, my friend Dj Ronn Plae of Digital Eargasm for helping me get my remixes out there, all the Oklahoma Dj's that play my remixes in there clubs, and all the fellow Dj's and EDM heads that love a good remix.
Thanks DJ Chaotic. i'm coming through your party if i'm ever in OK..
so jared and i have participated heavily in what will be termed the hybernation of winter 08/09....but something happened last week. maybe it was all cat fornication we witnessed outside our window or the warmer weather, but we went out, and when i say we went out, we went out hard. it seemed everywhere we went we ran into mr star city and anton glamb, and it was in these street meetings that the new term for 2009 has been realized........
SLURKING - definition: super lurking or scene lurking.
on saturday we caught up with the brooklyn cult known as ninjasonik, led by the reverend mcfly, jah jah. it was like grunge lite with heavy dose of club. it seemed like jah jah did more shit talking than he did songs, but does it matter? with the crowd chanting their name, you could just imagine the music, its a movement. and of course, things got really moving when the original cult club leader, spank rock, and his funky partner amanda blank (on the shoulders of star city) took the mic....
Sometimes you have to deal with the fact that people want to know how "for real" you are. Generally this means how long you've been doing whatever it is you do or who got you into it.
Nowadays its all about how long you've been raving....and if you are under 21 it just doesn't seem to be possible to live up to the heady days of the early ninties. Well kids, I bring you your new inspiration: 2 Righteous Dudes.
This is possibly the only father/son electro duo dropping jams on the scene. I have had the pleasure of hearing one of their sets in Orange County and I found it to be, well, righteous. Basically Pops (DJ Manray) raised Junior (DISH.IT) as a Goa Trance kid. Here he is in 93 with his "baby sitters:"
They've sent us a Live Mix (getting more and more of these!) and it is totally on point. Not surprising, because these guys are nothing if not meticulous.
Sturzflug(Azzido Da Bass Dub) - Spillsbury Kuku(feat. Fagget Fairys) - AC Slater Buzzin(AC Slater Remix) - Shwayze The New Hip House(feat. Alex Peace) - DJ Bam Bam, Mixin Marc Bring Back The Duck(feat. MC Duke) - The Squatters Open Ya Drapes(Electric Soulside Remix) - Keith Mackenzie Amsterdam(feat. Guerilla Speakerz) - Mightyfools Hey Babe(Electric Soulside Remix) - Mightyfools Under Your Skin - Action Man Dominator(Lars Moston Remix) - Human Resource Pussy - Nadastrom Curry - Mustard Pimp Evil Panda - Sound Of Stereo Got The Power - Jak Z La Fumo Loco(Edu K Remix) - Act Yo Age Rapture(Beanflickers Remix) - Data Burglar Problem - Monsieur B.
We would like to commemorate this this occasion by giving you a free iPhone. But we can't, so instead we are releasing a free WZRDZ track from the EP to wreak havoc on the interweb!
Mike Genius sent us this live mix as well as a flyer for his next gig.......
The show is at Webster Hall (where mike seems to turn up frequently) with the newly hyped Michna, Red Wire Black Wire (who's PR agent is always sending me stuff) and Woodhands, who i know nothing about except they are from Canada.
This guy from Belgium, HighBLoo, sent this track to us. What can I say? I liked it. It's a good track to DJ in the fidgit vain. I will definitely spin it. Who knows, it could be one of those secret weapon bangers....
